Our 2023 Urubamba Leadership Club has begun!

In April we began our 2023 Youth Leadership Club in Urubamba. Our goal for the club is to build resilient leaders in Urubamba. The club is for teenagers (13-17 years old) who live in the Sacred Valley and takes place during the school year. We offer bi-monthly meetings where different community leaders come and share their knowledge on a variety of topics including, but not limited to: teamwork, leadership styles, communication and listening skills, and sustainability and regeneration. We supplement our in-class meetings with weekend excursions such as hiking and climbing and visits to nearby small businesses and environmental projects. Through these hands-on experiences, our participants learn more about themselves and their communities.

This year, we currently have 9 participants registered, with the possibility of accepting two or three more this month. Our participants represent the diversity of the Sacred Valley with students who have moved here from bigger cities in Peru such as Cusco, Arequipa, and Lima as well as participants whose families have been here for generations, who speak Quechua and belong to local communities. We have already had several classes where we have begun to explore the themes of leadership. All of the classes included dynamic team building games, thought-provoking questions, and lively discussion. One Saturday, we rock climbed in the nearby town of Pachar. With our guides, Jaseh and Meli, our participants were able to challenge themselves by pushing their limits and climbing to the top of three routes. We have already seen a lot of growth in our participants in the two months they have been participating, and we are excited to see how they continue to progress throughout the year.

Valley Camp depends on donations to make this program possible.Through financial support, we are able to pay teachers, organize field trips, provide healthy snacks, and create a transformational experience for our participants.
